So this will be Sissydude’s very last post (and it’s “MEGA” of course). I started Sissydude (@ Blogger) on Saturday, September 20th, 2008. I originally thought of it as a personal scrapbook of things that I loved… vintage kitsch, beautiful artworks, music, queer awesomeness, vintage porn and yes, hairy assholes. I enjoyed posting the weird and wonderful, never thinking that it would reach any kind of following. Well, it sure did! Especially when I moved to Tumblr when Blogger removed Sissydude (without reason) on Sept 18th, 2009.
On Tumblr I got caught up in the obsessive and enthusiastic posting of others. There was an energy there… people sharing cute crafts, dirty pics, themselves. It was almost an acid trip sometimes or a comfy cozy safe place for queer expression. But after a year or so I thought I needed to get my own domain fearing that Tumblr would shut me down for something (who knows what). So with help from my friend Aubrey, Sissydude.com was born on December 22, 2010. I took that never-ending Tumblr scroll magic and had the best time making “Mega-Posts” (a spirited Tumblr rip-off), sharing interesting queer historical things, discovering such talented photographers, bloggers and models etc.
As much as Sissydude started out as my personal scrapbook of inspiration… it really ended up with me feeling this growing need to share what I found with people. Sometimes posting was an escape from life, keeping depression at bay… sometimes it was just plain old fun (never made money from it). But in the last few months the need to share has waned. At the end of December 2016, Tumblr deleted my account “for life”. No explanation… they just did it. What did I violate? Who knows. That just made me frustrated and mad.
The internet has become Facebook with zillions of shitty links to nowhere, the search for things to share has lost it’s excitement… my personal need to do so just isn’t there. To many Sissydude may have jumped the shark years ago. It just feels right for me to end it now while I still love it. I’ve been enjoying making art again… on the floor… on a desk, cutting paper, painting, collaging. I need to step away from the computer and look and feel real things for a while.
I want to thank all of you for following, sending your beautiful emails, sharing your images, art, bodies and comments (Sissydude followers are very open-minded sweethearts) and crazy fun gifts through the years. Thank you for enjoying this thing I did.
I felt the LOVE everyday! Very proud.
XOXO
JOHN
The Sissydude archives will magically vanish in the next few days. Now enjoy this last Mega-Post (I made it like a normal post… not an end of the road looking back thing)…
